December is here, and its sunny disposition this year encourages happy thoughts and  hopefulness for the future. At Jackson, one of our community’s dreams has come to life with the opening of our newly remodeled main office. Please come by and see the attractive new addition to our facilities. It still needs a few finishing touches and some reception area furniture, but the architect, contractor, and construction workers who have been busy completing the project have given much attention to detail. The result is truly awesome! The cafeteria will be opening soon as well, providing a comfortable and beautiful atmosphere for our students to eat their meals. Please support our efforts to teach your students table manners and polite conversation during mealtimes as well as their personal responsibility in keeping the cafeteria clean.

I would like to remind you that any visitor to our campus between the hours of 7:50 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. needs to sign in at the main office. This is district policy, and it is now very convenient to do so with the opening of our centrally located main office. This practice is especially important if you need to pick up your child before the end of the school day, even if it is only 5 minutes before dismissal. Interruptions affect all of the students in your child’s class; therefore we appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

The holiday program this year will be beautiful and festive, but adjustments will need to be made due to the ongoing construction. Because we are expecting  the cafeteria to be completed in the next few days and construction on the auditorium to begin immediately afterwards, Jackson’s Holiday Program will take place in the newly remodeled cafeteria. Due to the limited space, however, there will need to be two programs to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend. Parents whose children are in Pre-K, Kinder, and 1st grades are invited to attend the performance on Tuesday, December 20th. Parents whose children are in the 2nd through 5th grades are invited to attend on Wednesday, December 21st. Both performances will begin at 8:15 and will end at approximately 9:30 a.m. If you have children in both life spans, please choose the performance you would like to attend. The division of students by grades in the above manner results in the most   equitable division possible. In both cases, parents will be able to see the entire program, including all of our students in Grades Pre-K through 5th and our upper grade band, orchestra, and chorus.

I am pleased to announce that our 2nd annual Astronomy Night will take place on Thursday, December 1st. We are fortunate to feature four fascinating presentations by JPL scientists! You and your children are invited to join us as our computer lab is transformed into a planetarium and our science lab displays slides of the latest mission to Mars (and temporarily hosts a model of the Mars Rover). In addition, there will be a robotics demonstration in our newly remodeled cafeteria and telescopes for your stargazing pleasure on our playground. Watch your step!  It needs to be dark to be able to see the heavenly bodies floating through space far beyond

the earth’s atmosphere.  Let us hope that such an evening helps inspire our students to become part of the future of the U.S. space program. As part of the science program at Jackson Elementary, I am confident that a future astro-physicist walks among us!

Please make sure that your child is in school every day. Unnecessary absences will affect your child’s academic progress.

Thursday, December 22nd will be a short day. Winter break will begin on Friday, December 23rd. School will resume again on Monday, January 9th. Enjoy your holidays!!!

Diciembre esta aquí, y su disposición brillante este año nos anima a tener felices pensamientos y esperanzas para el futuro. En Jackson, uno de los sueños de nuestra comunidad ha llegado a nuestras vidas con la apertura de nuestras oficinas recién remodeladas. Le invitamos a que venga y visite nuestras nuevas instalaciones. Todavía se necesita algunos detalles y muebles, pero los arquitectos, contratistas y trabajadores han prestado mucha atención a los detalles. El resultado es realmente impresionante! La cafetería se abrirá en breve, y así proporcionarle  un ambiente cómodo y atractivo a nuestros estudiantes al recibir sus alimentos. Ayudenos a esforzar a nuestros estudiantes a mantener la disciplina, el orden y el respeto en la cafetería, al igual la responsabilidad de cuidar y mantener limpia nuestra cafetería.

Me gustaría recordarles que cualquier persona que visite nuestra escuela entre las 7:50 a.m. a 2:15 p.m. tiene que registrarse en la oficina principal, al igual a todos los padres de familia que requieran recoger a sus hijos antes de la hora de la salida, aunque usted requiera recoger a su hijo 5 minutos antes. Son reglas del distrito y debemos seguirlas por seguridad y protección a nuestros estudiantes. Quiero recordarles también que al recoger sus hijos durante horas escolares son interrupciones que afectan a todos los estudiantes en la clase de su hijo, razón por la cual agradecemos su cooperación en este asunto.

El programa de fiestas este año será hermoso, pero debido a los trabajos de construcción en la escuela, hemos tenido que hacer ciertos ajustes ya que pronto entregarán la cafetería y enseguida iniciarán los trabajos en el auditorio de la escuela. Nuestro programa de vacaciones se llevará a cabo en la cafetería. Por el espacio limitado que tendremos, vamos a dividirlo en dos presentaciones. Para los padres de los estudiantes de PK, kinder  y 1er grado el programa será el día 20 de diciembre. Para los padres de los  estudiantes de 2do, 3ro, 4to y 5to grado, el programa será el día miércoles 21 de diciembre. Ambas presentaciones comenzarán a las 8:15 a.m. y finalizarán a las 9:30 a.m. A los padres que tengan hijos para ambos programas, pueden escoger el programa que desean asistir. En ambos programas los padres tendrán la oportunidad de ver toda la presentación de todos los estudiantes desde PK hasta 5to grado, nuestra banda, orquesta y coro.

Me complace anunciarles que nuestra segunda noche astronómica anual se llevará a cabo el día jueves 1 de diciembre. Tenemos la suerte de poder contar con 4 fascinantes presentaciones por científicos de JPL! Usted y sus hijos están invitados a nuestro laboratorio de computadoras transformado en un planetario y el laboratorio de ciencias que mostrará imágenes de la última misión a Marte (y temporalmente tendremos el modelo de un robot de Marte). En adición tendremos en la cafetería una demostración robótica y en el patio de la escuela tendremos telescopios para que puedan contemplar las estrellas! Cuidado con los escalones ya que debe estar oscuro para observar el espacio más

allá de la atmosfera de la tierra. Esperemos que esta noche inspire a algunos de nuestros estudiantes a formar parte del programa espacial de los Estados Unidos. Con nuestro programa de ciencias en Jackson, estoy segura que un futuro fisico astronauta camina entre nosotros!

Les deseo bendiciones en esta temporada de fiestas. Me siento afortunada de pertenecer a una comunidad escolar donde los estudiantes están prosperando y familias están dispuestas a hacer todo lo mejor por sus hijos. Que el nuevo año les traiga riqueza familiar, salud y perseverancia en sus sueños.

Por favor asegúrese que su hijo asista a clases todos los días. Ausencias innecesarias afectan el progreso académico de su hijo.
